Here is a great recipe for a simple lasagne. Try and follow the instructions as closely as you can and you shouldn’t go too wrong. Once you have mastered this you will probably find you can start to add your own personalised touch to your next lasagne efforts. Good luck!

Ingredients

Minced Beef 450g
Tin of Tomatoes 400g
Mushrooms 100g
Chopped onion 1
Garlic 1 clove
Beef Stock 1/2 pint (300ml)
Butter 25g
Lasagne Verdi 1 Packet

The White Sauce

Milk 300ml
Butter 25g
Plain Flour 25g
Grated Cheddar 50g

Making Method

1. To prepare the Meat Sauce, fry the Mince Beef and Onion until brown.
2. Stir in the Stock, Garlic, Tomatoes and Mushrooms (sliced).
3. Cook for about an hour until thick and rich.
4. If necessary add 2 tablespoons of Cornflour dissolved in a small amount of cold water to thicken.
5. Grease an oven proof dish.
6. To make the Bechamel sauce, melt the Butter, stir the Flour in and add the Milk,
stirring until thickened.
7. Grate the Cheese and add. Add seasoning to taste.

Even as an experienced chef I find this an excellet and very simple recipe to follow.
Superb with grated carrot or mediterranean vegetables such as aubergine and sun-dried tomatoes to spruce the meat sauce up. Also a few fresh basil leaves on to garnish give it a wonderful presentation. Very tasty

Lasagna Verdi, are thin sheets of pasta, you can get them from any supermarket!

    9. liz says:

Im from turkey and i really like this recipe, but im not sure i understand. what does it mean to ‘mark 6 for 45 minutes?”

    10. Martin says:

RE: Im from turkey and i really like this recipe, but im not sure i understand. what does it mean to ‘mark 6 for 45 minutes?”

Mark 6 is for a gas oven/cooker. It’s the equivalent of 200 degrees celcius or 400 degrees fahrenheit.

    11. kim says:

Hi Liz, “mark 6 for 45mins” means cook on gas mark 6 (or 200 degrees celsius if you have an electric oven) for 45 mins. Hope this helps.

    12. justine says:

mark 6 is another way of saying 200 degrees – just some ovens have the temperature shown as degrees and others as marks. dont let it confuse you!

    13. Sareen says:

Hi, This sounds like such a yummy recipe. I have a couple of questions though. How much of a cup does 300 ml fill? For e.g. is 300 ml = 1 cup?

    14. jimbob says:

      300ml is about 1 and 1/4 cups. a metric cup is 250ml.

    15. kelly-anne wessels says:

Hi Sareen, 300ml is 1 and a half cups.

      going to maqke this tonight.

    16. jenny says:

can i freeze leftovers of lasagna

    17. alex says:

i love lasagna it very nice its yummy i could eat it all day. i am making in today with my friends by the way i am a girl

    18. Hazel Edwards says:

This is an easy recipe! i’ve jus made it and Frozen it ready for whn i come back from holiday.

Jenny, i see no reason why you can’t freeze it, as i have just done so – before cooking mind. If it’s cooked and then frozen, either defrost it in fridge during day for that night, or if you forget, take it out the freezer in the evening and put in oven at Gas Mark 6, 200degrees C for 30mins, and it should come out lovely!!!

    19. HANNAH FROM SALFORD says:

thanks this has helped me with my english homework!!

    20. Frank says:

Do you need to cover it with foil when you put it in the oven? (considering that 45 mins. is quite a long time in it)

    21. April says:

This recipe is great, but I found it was a little lacking in flavour. I added some tomato paste to the meat sauce and it was perfect!

    22. Morgan & Josh says:

      300ml’s is 1 and 1/5 cups. Not 1 and 1/4 or 1 and a half.
anyways, sprinkle brown sugar on the mince after cooking it. Do not mix it in, makes the meat alot sweeter :)

    23. Hazwan says:

hi.i’ve got 1 question. do we really need to cook the meat for around an hour? i’m guessing it might be too long.

    24. Vanessa says:

Hazwan, you don’t have to cook the meat for so long. The reason why it needs time is because you want the sauce to thicken. What you can do is cook it for 30 mins (over a low-medium heat) and cover the pan but don’t use the stock. The juice of the tinned tomatoes will do that job. As the author states, if you need to thicken add a little flour. My parnter doesn’t even cook the beef sauce beforehand. He cooks the whole lot slowly in the oven, over an hour!

    25. Kameka says:

This recipie sounds great, but have 1 question, do u have to use the beef stock? And, are the tin of tomatoes realy necessary?
Need this 4 my GCSE!! Please help =S

    26. yazzyy says:

yummy lasange is sexii i love it i will eat it forever yummy thanx by da now ma mum doesnt have 2 cook it now i can yey love lasange 4 eva

    27. claire says:

got this cooking now as i speak, smells lovely!!!!
Kameka, no, it isnt really necessary to add beef stock, but it does add extra flavour and makes more sauce. also, if you didnt add beef stock or tinned tomato’s then you wouldn’t have a lasagne, it would just be dry mince and onion between sheets of crunchy lasagne as there would be no sauce to soften it. hmmmmm, think you might struggle with your GCSE!!!!

    28. JulieGeorgiana says:

Wow! This was my first lasagna and it went down a treat!

I did use that jellyfied stock for extra flavour, and added herbs and tomato puree too!

I also doubled the amount of cheese sauce

I found that 30 minutes in the oven is perfect (but I did use fresh lasagna sheets)…

But for a first try… it was amazing and everyone argued over who get’s seconds and who had the most!

    29. natasha says:

i think that the recipe is great i LOVE it !
      xxx

    30. Gareth says:

      :D :P :D :P :D

    35. Kirsty-Sara says:

Omg, this looks great. Im taking GCSE food and i have to make an italian dish for a final project, would this lasagne be a good and tasty option?

    36. shamila says:

      yum yum great food :)

    37. Danny says:

I would blanch the pasta sheets off in boiling water until just under cooked then put them in, otherwise after 45minutes the pasta can be quite hard still. You’ll then leave it in the oven to soften them up and end up burning the top. Cover the dish in tin foil when its in the oven, it will prevent it from burning.

Trust me, im a chef :)

    38. Jazzy says:

      WOW!
      :D :P:O:)

    39. Tashaaa :D says:

    40. Owen says:

This looks and smells nice, but DEFINITELY NOT ENOUGH FOR 8 PEOPLE as the recipe states. Enough for 3 or 4 at a push.

Nice food, but absolute rubbish about the portions. Ruined the meal I was cooking for a group of 6!

      8 people … pffft.

    41. Dave from Birmingham says:

I shall attempt to cook this tonight!

Hope it all goes well, as its the first time im cooking a ‘proper’ meal for my girlfriend. Although i have been cooking smaller things for years =D
